[Character] It is a colorless or white crystal powder. It has two modifications: a and . The a modification has cubic phase with density of 2.011/cm3 and the modification has trigonal phase with density of 2.152g/cm3. It is soluble in water and alcohol, but insoluble in acetone. It is stable in air. The modification will be destroyed and translated to a modification when it is long heated. Poisonous!
[Uses] It is used as glass etchant, disinfector in fermenting industry, mothproof agent of textile, timber antiseptic, and in soldering flux, barium salt determine, light metal cast, plating and etc. It is also used to make cryolite and ammonium chlorate, to extract potassium from greensand.
